Trek to Langtang Valley

The trek to Langtang is a great trek for neophyte to the Himalaya or those short on time. Langtang is a narrow valley lies in the north of Kathmandu valley and south of the Tibetan border. The Langtang Lirung dominates the valley at the north, The Gang Chhenpo (6388 meters) to the south and The Dorje Lakpa (6975 meters) to the east. This is an outstanding trekking in Nepal among some of the most beautiful scenery and flanking you can get to the massive snow-capped mountains.

The Langtang trek starts from Syabru Besi, a 9 hours drive from Kathmandu. Following a trail upstream by the river – bank, you trek through ethnic Tamang villages, and green forests. People of Tibetan origin who practice Buddhism inhabit this high and isolated region. The wide spread Kyangin valley surrounded by snowy peaks from all four sides. The trail takes you up to Kyangin at 3800 meters, where you get an opportunity to ascend Kyangjin Ri from where 360◦ mountain views are fantastic. There is an opportunities for moderate climbing excursions here, you should allow a few extra days for exploration of the extensive glacier system.

After an ascent of Kyangjin Ri, you retrace your route back down the valley to Syabru Besi and then drive back to Kathmandu or there are a number of alternatives for returning to Kathmandu. The alternative route to Kathmandu is cross Ganja La pass and enters to Helambu then return to kathmandu. A third alternative is to trek as far back as syabru from Langtang, then cross via Gosainkund into Helambu

Trek to Langtang Valley


Itinerary details

Day 01: Arrived to Kathmandu (1300 meter)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan international airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by of our representatives, who will bring you to your hotel. After you have been settled in at your hotel, our representative will brief you in detail about your travel itinerary. After which, you will be taken on a stroll of the local market. In the evening, we offer you a welcome dinner at a Nepalese restaurant with Nepalese traditional cultural program.

Day 02: Kathmandu City Tour (1300 meter)

Today, you will be taken on an interesting guided tour of Kathmandu city, you will visit historical monuments and religious holy places like temples, Stupas and durbar squares. The rest of the time, we will spend in preparation for trek.

Day 03: Drive to Syabru Bensi.

The trek begins with nine hours bus journey on a paved highway twisting and climbing over ridges to the Trisuli valley, offering excellent views of Annapurna II,Manaslu and Ganesh Himal and descends into the broad Trisuli Valley. The road to Syabru bensi via Dhunche and Betrawati starts just before the bridge and follows the east bank of the Trisuli River.

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel

The trail leads to Lama Hotel, climbing east out of the village than continues ascend through the Langtang Khola. On the trail, the forest is less dense and drier on this side of the river, consisting mainly of scrub oak as opposed to the damp forest of the large pines found on the shady southern bank; reach to tiny settlement of Lama Hotel at 2380 metres elevation for an overnight.

Day 05: Trek to Langtang village

Today, the trail climbs steeply to Ghora Tabela then ascends gradually, as the valley becomes wider and wider, through scattered Tamang villages until the large settlement of Langtang is reached at 3500 meters. The houses of Langtang and the surrounded villages are of Tibetan style surrounded by stall enclosing fields of buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley. Herds of yaks and cattle are kept here in the pastures above the village.

Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa

From Langtang village to Kyanjin, the trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures. It is easy to reach Kyanjin Gompa,at 3800 metres ,by lunch time, allowing time to acclimatize. After lunch, explore surroundings visit to monastery and cheese factory. The cheese factory was started in 1955 by the Swiss Association for Technical Assistance and produces many tons of cheese annually.

Day 07: Excursion Langtang valley

Today, hike up to Kyanjin Gompa at an elevation of 4300 meters. From the moraine, there is a spectacular view of Langtang Lirung and the foot of one of its major glaciers. Further more adventurous activities, an early morning climb to Kyanjin-Ri will provide outstanding views surrounding Himalayas and paradise valley view of Langtang. After breakfast, proceeds climb to Tsergo- Ri peak a ridge to the north of the village.

Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel

After breakfast, all the same way walk to Goda Tabela for lunch and hike down to Lama Hotel for overnight.

Day 09: Trek to Syabru Bensi

After breakfast, leisurely we trek back to Syabru Bensi. We arrive there around lunchtime. After lunch, we walk around the town. Evening we will enjoy and celebrate the last night of trek.

Day 10: Return to Kathmandu

After breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu, there are local public buses leaves every hour to Kathmandu.

Trek to Langtang Valley

Basic and Essential info for trekking trip


Destination Management Inc (DMI) would like kindly inform to our valued visitors/ trekkers’ about the importance of equipments and others information about the trekking trip in Nepal. The trekking equipment means or it indicates to those things, which needed personally for you during the trekking. Due to trekking is a way of travelling in remote and high Himalayas region, the trekkers should be fully equipped for their safety. Trekkers have to manage the following equipment according to their trekking destination.

What to Bring With You (Basic Equipment)


• Sun Hat and Sun Cream
• Woolen cap and glove
• Light sweater or jacket, T-short for during the day
• Warm jacket, paints
• Sleeping bag & Rain poncho
• Trekking shoes Poly propylene/wool socks
• Swiss knife
• Big backpack and rain cover for it
• Small backpack,
• Sandals for shower,
• Flashlight & spare batteries
• Reading book, Pen & Note book
• Sunglasses, sun screen & camera etc.
• Water bottle
• personal towel

Safe Trekking Arrangements

Our principle is first safety than success so kindly request to all our trekkers, when you start the trip, do not walk alone, always follow the group, do not make ostentatious display of valuable possessions and do not leave lodge door unlocked. Always follows the rules of Acute Mountain Sickness.

Accommodation & Food

During the trek, all accommodations will be on twin sharing basis. However, teahouse / lodges of some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities and food will be provided at lodge chose from menu, all types of international cuisine including typical Nepali food. As the trail goes up the water, prices increase. It is possible to use water purification tablets as option.


Showers

In the beginning of trek, you may find running hot water for shower, but as you climb do not expect for daily shower. If want or need to wash your body further on trek, you can ask for bucket of hot water, if it is possible.

Acclimatization

All trek itineraries are planned with level of awareness of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Altitude sickness is a significant risk when trekking on any trails above 3000meters. You should have to be familiar with the symptoms and do not ignore it. If you or anyone in your group begins to experience symptoms of AMS then do not heisted or delay inform to your group leader (trekking guide).


Physical Requirements

This is non-technical trekking route will push you but do not require any previous trekking or mountaineering experience. You will want to be in good physical condition and be able to trek for 5-7 hours daily at altitude.

Insurance

Insurance policy should cover for helicopter evacuation expenses in the eventuality of a serious illness or accident. The insurance should also cover for possible evacuation in case of getting stranded in remote airfield due to bad weather condition.
